How to Care for Your Dentures

Getting dentures can feel like an exciting prospect after having problems with your natural teeth for a long time. Dentures look and function similar to natural teeth, but they require a different type of care. At NKC Dental, we’re here to help you learn how to care for your dentures and your mouth well.
Clean After Eating
After you eat, take out your dentures and rinse them off. If you’re out and about and can’t take them out, then swish some water in your mouth and spit it. You want to remove loose food pieces from your mouth. You can also brush your mouth out with gauze or a soft toothbrush while your dentures are out.
Soak Overnight
Your dentist in North Kansas City, MO, or Westwood, KS, will recommend a denture cleaner. Use this every night to soak your dentures. If you don’t have the cleaner, still take them out and soak them in water. This will give your gums a break and also help clean them. Rinse them well before you return them to your mouth to remove all of the cleaner.
Avoid Dangers
Harsh chemicals, including those in tooth whitening products, anything with bleach, and even hot water can damage your dentures. Only use approved denture cleaners or cool water when cleaning them.
Keep Up With Dental Checks
Even if you no longer have natural teeth, keep up with your regular visits to NKC Dental, your dentist in North Kansas City, MO, or Westwood KS. We want to ensure that there are no problems with the rest of your mouth. We can also professionally clean the dentures and check the fit.
Keeping your mouth healthy, even with dentures, requires professional help. Give NKC Dental a call to schedule an appointment. How to Care for Your Dentures.
